When starting freelancing, it can feel odd to start from scratch without previous experience. What do you share with others when you haven't done anything? This is where many people get stuck.
However, you do not need to have a client to start freelancing; you need to produce projects of work to showcase.
Select a skill such as graphic design, UI/UX, or video editing and start by creating completed projects yourself. Redesign an existing app, create social media graphics, edit some sample videos — anything that helps demonstrate what you can do as a freelancer.
Does it seem somewhat fake when you start doing it? Yes!
Everyone starts out like this.
Once you've made approximately 4-5 solid projects, you'll want to show them to potential clients on places like Instagram, LinkedIn or any freelancing platform where they may find you.
The hardest part of this process is obtaining the first client; many times you will have to give them a discount or complete a smaller project for free.
It may not be very exciting; however it will help in moving forward.
After completing that first project, everything begins feeling much more real; you develop confidence in your work and an understanding of your clients – ultimately gaining momentum within the freelancing industry.
