Life will not reveal to you its truth after you graduate. The opposite happens; after graduating, your life becomes more complicated! One minute you are worrying about your homework and attendance, then the next minute, everyone expects you to have a complete career plan in place! People will come up to you, and say, "Ab kya plan hai?" (What is your plan?) And guess what? It is not just one person; it is everyone, including relatives, neighbors, and even that uncle who does not really know you!
Somehow your career becomes everyone's property, and somehow everyone is comparing you to everyone else! You see Sharmaji's son get a job coding and he gets a salary, has a steady life, everyone's impressed with him, and you are sitting there thinking," Was I supposed to do that?"
If you are not interested in coding, this stage of your life can seem very bad because coding is overrepresented as the path to success everywhere you look. But that isn't the only path to success! There are also many high-paying jobs, for which you will not need any coding skills at all.
The problem is, NO ONE is explaining these high-paying jobs, so they do not appear to be real careers, when in fact they ARE real careers!
One of the many careers available is UI/UX Design.
Have you ever had an experience with an application that just felt as though it flowed nicely, was very easy to navigate and understand? There is more than just luck involved; it is part of the design process.
In UI and UX design, your main job is to design web sites/apps to create simple, clean, and intuitive designs for your users. Your job also requires you to analyze and understand how users think, what frustrates them while using the product, and to design a product around that.
UI/UX design is a mix of logic and creativity, this is one reason why many people find it enjoyable.
Many of the tools you will use to create user centered designs may include Figma; however, your ability to understand how users feel and how to find and provide solutions to their problems is the real skill/talent.
To give you an indication of UI/UX Designer salary ranges; based on experience level, someone new to UI/UX Design can typically expect to share between 3 – 6 LPA. Based on your experience, your salary can be as high as 10 – 15 LPA (or more), and you could choose to do freelance work if you prefer a more independent work environment in UI/UX Design.
Another alternative career to consider is graphic design.
All of the brands and advertisements that we see appear on the internet (i.e. posted on Instagram) are due to a designer creating them. The goal of graphic design is not just to provide something attractive but rather to create a piece of communication that engages an audience and enlightens them about something.
In graphic design you will learn about typography, color theory, layout, visual hierarchy, etc. You will also learn to use applications such as Photoshop and Illustrator, which are industry standards. The starting pay for graphic designers is generally around 2–5 LPA, but can increase with experience and ability to produce superior work. Many graphic designers operate freelance and eventually develop a client base of their own. The third area of alternative employment you can consider is digital marketing.
Digital marketing is simply a process of understanding how online attention works.
As a digital marketer you will analyze and understand why some materials become viral, while other materials go unnoticed. As a digital marketer you will analyze and establish reasons why certain web sites rank highly on Google and others do not.
You will also understand how you can search for something once, and then begin seeing ads about that product everywhere you go online.
In digital marketing, you will manage the development of effective strategies for SEO (Search Engine Optimization), social media, advertising, and content.
Digital marketing salaries for entry-level employees typically start in the range of 3–6 LPA. However with experience, the potential to earn exceeds 10–15 LPA.
Another career path is video editing.
Content is often thought of as everything. Video editing brings passion to content.
Raw footage will typically be a boring watch. Editing is what makes raw footage worth watching.
Video editing teaches you how to combine clips, add music, enhance timing and create a visual story.
Video editors use tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects that are used frequently in the video editing industry. Video editors typically start with projects or entry-level positions that pay between 2 LPA and 5 LPA, and depending on your skill level, there is significant potential for rapid growth in this field.
Choose one item; do it; try for a minimum of 30 days.
At first, this may seem confusing to you as everyone familiar with this process will tell you. After some consistency over time (30 days), huge improvements will occur and many new skills will be learned, enabling you to produce many visible results for others (build your skills), gain confidence in yourself as a professional (grow yourself), and potentially earn an income (make money).
Instead of searching for "which careers are the safest," examine what your strongest daily interests are, e.g., UI/UX Design, Graphic Design, Digital Marketing, Video Editing, or Motion Graphics - something you would love to do every day without burning out.
You are not in a position to create your future at this moment; all you're really doing is choosing a new path for your life (that's all you need to create). At the same time, Sharmaji's only son is still stuck in a rut, questioning his life choices.
